A police operation is continuing this morning to locate a missing boatie on Lake Macquarie.
About five o’clock yesterday afternoon, emergency services were called to the Croudace Bay Dog Park, Valentine, following reports of a man in the water.
Police were told a 60-year-old man had been attempting to recover a yacht, which had run aground about a week ago, when a blue and yellow tinny he was using separated from the mooring.
The man was last seen trying to swim to the tinny before a witness lost sight of him.
Sea and air searches failed to find him and the police operation continued at 8am.
Volunteers from Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie are also involved after searching for almost three hours last night.
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Steve Raymond said Lake Macquarie 31 was deployed just before 9 o’clock last night to help the multi-agency search led by NSW Police Marine Area Command.
He says the volunteer crew on board Marine Rescue NSW vessel Lake Macquarie 31 searched waters until 11:45pm.
