Quake hits Hunter again

A magnitude 3 earthquake has been recorded in Muswellbrook.

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of one kilometre at Muswellbrook about 3.30 yesterday afternoon and created shockwaves felt by locals.

It’s the latest in a series of aftershocks following moderate quakes in August and earlier this month.

There was a 2.8 aftershock about 10 to 11 last night.

The federal coalition has admitted that earthquake activity in the Upper Hunter may raise questions about a proposed nuclear plant.

The old Liddell power station has been earmarked as one of seven sites in Australia as part of the opposition’s future energy plans.

If a location is found to be technically unsuitable it would be removed from consideration.
