Edgeworth residents say they were woken to sounds of explosions early this morning from a nearby house fire.
Seven Fire and Rescue NSW crews with about 30 firefighters responded to Triple Zero calls to a fire on Croudace Street at about 12:30am.
No one was injured and no occupants were accounted for when firefighters arrived, but residents say explosions caused by the fire rattled windows a block away.
The fire was under control by 1:15am and by 2pm it was safe for firefighters to enter the home to conduct a search for any occupants.
No one was found, but they did discover a dog that was deceased.
The house was completely destroyed.
NSW Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics also attended – firefighters handed the scene over to police at about 2:30am.
Investigations into the cause are continuing this morning.
