A man has been charged over the death of a baby in his care at New Lambton over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the Fairfield Avenue home around 4:30am on Saturday over concerns the six-month-old boy had gone into cardiac arrest.
The baby was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition however he passed away on Sunday.
A post-mortem examination discovered the cause of death was a traumatic head injury.
Strike Force Wandearah has been established to investigate, with officers arresting the 28-year-old man at Budgewoi yesterday afternoon.
The New Lambton resident was charged with murder and causing reckless grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will front Wyong Local Court today.
