Police have now arrested and charged a man over a suspicious fire at Lake Macquarie last week.
Emergency crews were called to Fassifern Railway Station at about 5:30pm on Thursday, January 3rd where they managed to put out a blaze in nearby bushland.
Detectives then set up Strike Force Wollybutt to investigate the incident and yesterday, they arrested a 25-year-old man near Victoria Street Railway Station in East Maitland.
The man’s been charged with intentionally causing a fire, disposing of stolen property and possessing suspected stolen bankcards.
He’s been refused bail and will front court today.
It comes after a young volunteer firefighter was charged with lighting fires in the same area, earlier this week.
Police are reminding the public that anyone caught deliberating lighting a bushfire could face penalties of up to 21 years in prison.
